Deadline announced today (30) that Jaafar Jackson will play Michael Jackson in the biopic Michael. A rising singer, Jaafar is the nephew of the King of Pop, son of Jermaine Jackson, and one of the members of The Jacksons 5.
Antoine Fuqua (Training Day) will direct the project. The title had been announced in 2019 when Bohemian Rhapsody producer Graham King said he was involved in a biopic of the artist with GK Films. However, news about the production ceased years ago, leading to the belief that the film would have been shelved.
Now, produced by Lionsgate and Graham King, the film has an official title, Michael. In addition, another name already involved with the feature since 2019, screenwriter John Logan, nominated for an Oscar for his work on Gladiator, The Aviator, and Hugo, is also on board. As described, the film will follow the complex life of the iconic artist.
Michael does not yet have a premiere date.
