Shetland Season 8 Release Date, Cast, Plot & Everything You Need To Know

This beloved police drama was doomed when DI Jimmy Perez left Shetland at the end of season seven.

The BBC has renewed the show for a tenth season despite the loss of the show’s star, who has been with the program for the past nine.

As an added bonus, the BBC was kind enough to let us know about the renewal before the season seven premiere, so we didn’t have to fret about the show’s future after Douglas Henshall left.

However, what does this mean for the future of Shetland? And how will the show go on without Jimmy? The most pressing question is who will replace Henshall as the protagonist. The details for the upcoming eighth season of the BBC show Shetland may be found here.

When will BBC air the eighth season of Shetland?

When the eighth season renewal of Shetland was announced, the BBC also revealed that production on the new episodes will begin in the spring of 2023, suggesting that the show would return to screens later that year.

Shetland Season 8 Cast

Can anyone take Douglas Henshall’s place? When news of Jimmy’s sudden departure initially broke, Douglas Henshall issued a statement that said, in part, “He and the location will be missed. I hope the next events go smoothly for everyone involved.

The head of BBC Drama, Gaynor Holmes, added, “We will miss him greatly.”

He leaves the show on good terms, though, and we’re psyched to keep bringing this beloved story to viewers around the world.

It will be strange to know that they are recording the eighth season without me there,” Henshall admitted in a separate interview with Radio Times.

Although I know it won’t be the same program I was in, I still wish them the best of luck. They need to make a brand-new program.

Since then, the BBC has announced that, like The Bay and similar shows, a new lead will be presented. Yet, who could it possibly be? The most logical choice is Alison O’Donnell’s Tosh.

Since she has been by Jimmy’s side from the beginning, his right-hand woman is ready to take over as his boss.

The character of DI Fraser Brooks, played by Brian Ferguson, has also been mentioned. From a story perspective, this may make a lot of sense, despite the fact that he is a newcomer to Shetland.

Fans are shooting for the stars by suggesting additional candidates like Line of Duty’s Martin Compston, but at this point, that’s probably just wishful thinking.

Regardless of what happens, it is established that Annika Rose’s Maggie Kean and Mark Bonnar’s Duncan Hunter have left the show.

Moreover, the BBC hasn’t made any official announcements about who will be returning, but the following can probably be considered locks: First Deputy Chief of Staff Steven Robertson Sheryl Wilson Sandy Sgt.

Lewis Howden (Lewis Howden) McCabe, Billy Donnie (Angus Miller), and PC (Conor McCarry) I.A. Grant’s Alex Played by Anne Kidd, and Cora McLean Cause of their ties to Jimmy, of course.

It’s unclear what will happen to the other show performers, such as Lucianne McEvoy and Erin Armstrong.

Shetland Season 8 Plot

When will this occur? Shetland has been dropping hints about Jimmy’s exit for quite some time, but the final episode of season seven was when we learned the full details of his leaving.

Jimmy ultimately did the right thing by preventing an execution and extradition, but this did not help his professional standing.

“If the last thing I do is support an innocent man, I’m good with that,” Jimmy told Rhona in the season seven finale. At this moment, Jimmy’s time as a private investigator is done.

Even if we won’t find out what happens to him and Meg, it’s safe to assume that new episodes of Shetland will begin with the introduction of a whole new protagonist, along with the regular cases that viewers have come to love over the past nine years.
