“I’m just as eager as everyone else to find out where Max is and how she’s doing,” she stated. Though it’s likely that the creators are simply exercising caution at the moment in order to prepare for full-on mayhem when this show’s fifth season comes to a close.
In an interview with the Happy Sad Confused podcast shortly after the release of season four, volume 2, The Duffer Brothers teased the first elements of the final season, including the promise that episodes will be substantially shorter.
The writers haven’t taken the initiative to come out and say it, but an emotional scene between Will and Mike seemed to make it clear to all viewers that the teen’s feelings for his best friend were far from platonic.
This is another well-worn-out plot in the story: the persistent theories that Will Byers is gay and in love with his best friend, Mike.
While Jonathan is understanding, and once more nothing was ever said, it is obvious that Will is afraid of being honest about his thoughts – particularly in the heart of 1980s Indiana – which eventually led to an emotional heart-to-heart conversation with his brother.
